USA: Board Approves Dredging Funds for Wells Harbor

The Board of Selectmen has authorized approximately $200,000 from the town’s Harbor Dredge Fund to be used for an emergency dredging of 10,000 cubic yards of sand in Wells Harbor.

The release of town funds is precautionary according to Town Manager Jon Carter since it was made clear on February 8 that the project would be federally funded. Ed O’Donnell, Chief of Navigation of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District, has stated that the 2012 USACE budget incorporates $198,000 for the Wells Harbor dredging.

The project activities will be conducted by the Army Corps vessel USS Currituck most likely during this spring or summer.
