Australia: Residents Question Lake Cathie Dredging Policy

The Port Macquarie-Hastings Council has faced a great deal of pressure to review its dredging policy for Lake Cathie, reports ABC.

Findings of a survey recently conducted by the Lake Cathie Progress Association show a considerable support for dredging. Secretary Jack Jones stressed that it is necessary to do research in order to support the need for dredging.

The survey results will go to the council, to the management of the council.

But the other thing that we need and the council say it hasn’t got, is the data to prove that these channels are virtually nonexistent now.

So the Association is working towards gathering that data themselves, professionally, and we will then prove beyond any doubt that it needs dredging,” he said.

Mr. Jones stated that approximately 400 residents have been surveyed and only one response opposed to dredging was recorded.
