Australia: Heavy Duty Dredger to Arrive at Mooloolah River

As sunshinecoastdaily.com reports, a heavy duty dredge is expected to arrive at Mooloolaba on Friday to clear a dangerous build-up of sand at the Mooloolah River bar.

The arrival of the barge will mean improved safety for boaties but a temporary halt to the sand replenishment program at Mooloolaba.

The beach replenishment needs to be done but the paramount issue is safety,” stated Member for Maroochydore, Fiona Simpson.

A heavier duty barge, the Port Frederick, which has been on the Gold Coast, was more suitable for tougher conditions, she added.

She was pleased that Maritime Safety Queensland had organised the deployment of the Port Frederick to address the problem of sand on the bar.
