Philippines: President OKs Implementation of Flood Control Projects

President Aquino has approved the implementation of high priority and high impact flood control projects.

These projects include:

– the repair of breached dikes,

– upgrading of aging pumping stations,

– clearing of clogged waterways.

Aquino expects that the projects, which will initially cost some P5 billion, will be finished in a year’s time, according to Cebu Daily News.

Secretary Rogelio Singson of the Department of Public Works and Highways said: “This is a major intervention that needs to be done. We need to clear waterways, we need to dredge them, we need to improve the walls and embankment of the rivers, so that we’re able to restore capacities.”
