Bright Future for Port of Geelong

New figures released today by Minister for Ports Denis Napthine show another record year of trade at the Port of Geelong with the Port handling a total throughput of 16 million tonnes in the 2011-12 financial year.

Dr Napthine was in Geelong this morning today to launch the Victorian Regional Channels Authority (VRCA) Economic Impact Study, where he announced that throughput through the Port of Geelong had increased by 12.7 per cent in 2011-12.

“These results are a fantastic endorsement of the Port of Geelong. They are also a great boost for the Barwon region and for the entire Victorian economy,” Dr Napthine said.

“The VRCA works closely with industry and with the Coalition Government in continuing to provide safe access and improvements to the Port through strategic investments,VRCA CEO Captain Peter McGovern said.
