Australia: Port of Eden to Get Financial Boost

Port of Eden to Get Financial Boost

The Federal Government will invest $10 million in the Port of Eden development program, reports abc.net.au.

Regarding this announcement, the federal member for Eden-Monaro Mike Kelly, said: “There will be dredging down to nine metres, panel extensions and other amenities, buoys and circulation arrangements and road upgrades to allow heavy vehicle access.”

The Port of Eden is the southern most declared port in NSW and services the south coast of NSW, including the towns of Bega, Merimbula, Bombala and Cooma. This port is home to one of the largest fishing fleets in NSW and also has significant capacity to service the needs of a variety of importers and exporters.

Kelly stated that this deepening program will allow cruise ships to dock at Eden, and added: “We are going to see now the capability of bringing in cruise liners, up to 2,000 passengers into Eden every week.”
