UAE: DP World Chairman Credits Jebel Ali Port’s Success

In a special ceremony that marked a combined total of 2000 years of work by a group of long serving employees, DP World Chairman HE Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem has credited Jebel Ali Port’s phenomenal success to its dedicated and long serving people.

At a ceremony held by DP World, UAE Region to honour 80 employees who have each completed 25 years of service at the company, Mr Bin Sulayem said Jebel Ali Port’s reputation as efficient and customer centric was a direct result of the long term commitment of its people.

The ceremony was attended senior DP World officials including HE Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, Vice Chairman, Mohammed Sharaf, Group Chief Executive Officer, and Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, DP World, UAE Region.

HE Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman, DP World, said:

This group of dedicated employees have a given a combined 2000 years to DP World. To have so many people who have worked for a company for 25 years or more is testament to their strong work ethic and determination to contribute to the growth of the company, Dubai and the UAE. They have helped this Emirati company take its place on the world stage as the third largest port operator in the world.

HE Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, Vice Chairman, DP World, said:

We are proud of the efforts of these long serving employees who have contributed to the development of DP World. Our people are our most valuable asset, and we are delighted that so many are with us still after 25 years, continuing to bring value to our business and our customers. Every one of the veteran DP World employees gathered here has contributed towards making Jebel Ali a role model for the rest of the industry.

DP World operates more than 65 marine terminals in six continents including new developments underway in India, Africa, Europe, South America, and the Middle East.

Last month, DP World officially opened the new extension to Container Terminal 2 (T2) at Jebel Ali Port, adding 1 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent container unit) to take capacity to 15 million TEU. The terminal’s quay wall was extended by 400 metres to 3,000 metres allowing for the simultaneous handling of six mega container ships.

Together with the 4 million TEU capacity Container Terminal 3 (T3), now under construction, Jebel Ali’s total capacity will reach 19 million TEU in 2014, and it will be the only port in the region able to handle 10 of the giant new generation vessels at the same time.
