Dredger Currituck to Reduce Shoaling in Wells Harbor

As part of a maintenance dredging scheme planned for the entrance to Wells Harbor, the Army Corps of Engineers dredger “Currituck” returned to Wells this week.

The Corps will dredge approximately 5,000 cubic yards of sandy sediment to reduce shoaling conditions and will place the material at a nearshore site off Wells Beach, approximately one mile southward of the entrance channel.

The Corps proposed the following haul route for dredged materials: transit from the dredge area southward parallel to the shore approximately one mile and place the material at a nearshore site off Wells Beach, in an area approximately 2000 feet long by 50 feet wide.

This cleanup project will last two to five days.

The dredging vessel “Currituck” was last in Wells in 2012 for another maintenance dredging program.
