New Rock Wall for Karaka

Auckland Council is due to begin construction of a rock wall to repair cliff erosion at Karaka Harborside.

The work will begin in early December and is scheduled for completion in the New Year.

Following the first stage of works in July 2015, the site has continued to be affected by coastal erosion and this second stage will minimize the ongoing loss of land at the base of the embankment.

The Auckland region has a history of volatile weather conditions in late December and early January, so there is a risk that any severe weather event could cause more erosion.

Second stage works will involve the placement of a rock wall along the base of the cliff to minimize the impact of wave action and tidal movement.

The works will be carried out near the new foreshore access ramp and eastwards for 100 meters.
