Photo Update from the QEC Infrastructure Project
VolkerStevin Ltd. has just released a photo from the ongoing Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) base porting infrastructure project in Portsmouth.
The project, worth £34.4 million, is for the reconstruction of the Middle Slip Jetty at HMNB Portsmouth, which will house the new Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers.
These works come as a part of the overall £100 million investment in HMNB Portsmouth in order to develop the docks and ensure the city is ready to become the base for both HMS Queen Elizabeth and Prince of Wales in 2017.
To accommodate their vast size and bow design, over three million cubic meters of clay, sand and gravel will be removed from over two miles of Portsmouth Harbor, covering an area the size of over 200 football pitches.
In June, the Defense Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) awarded a contract worth £31 million to Fareham-based Boskalis Westminster Ltd to dredge the harbor.
