Batemans Bay Dredging Operations About to Begin
One of the Corrigans Beach access tracks at Hanging Rock will be temporarily closed due to the Batemans Bay bar dredging works, according to the Eurobodalla Shire Council.
The access track adjacent to the sailing club will be closed from 4 October until 23 December and residents will be able to use two nearby alternative access tracks to the north of the closure.
The closest of these is only 170 meters away, the Council stated in its announcement.
Closure of the track is necessary for public safety reasons, according to Warren Sharpe, the Council’s Director Infrastructure Services.
“There will be heavy machinery and plant operating in this area. The machinery is needed to shift and stockpile the sand dredged from the bar,” said Mr Sharpe.
“We welcome the dredging of the Batemans Bay bar as this will improve navigation and safety for the boat community.”
The Council is working closely with Crown Lands who are carrying out the dredging works to minimize impact to beach users at the Hanging Rock end of Corrigans Beach.
