Meeting on Proposed Jasper Ocean Terminal Set for Today

The USACE is holding an open house and public scoping meeting to provide information about the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) that is being prepared for a proposed marine container terminal that would be adjacent to the Savannah River in Jasper County, South Carolina.

This meeting, set to take place today in Hardeeville, NC, is being held to provide the public with information about the proposed project and to collect written and oral comments from the public about the affected environment in order to identify issues that should be evaluated in the EIS.

“A court reporter will be present to document statements made during the meeting. Public involvement is an integral piece of the Corps’ process in evaluating impacts of the project,” the Corps, Charleston District, said in its announcement.

The proposed Jasper Ocean Terminal is expected to be one of the largest ports on the East Coast.

This container terminal will use sustainable technologies to handle up to 7 million 20-foot containers annually, and upon completion will support vessels that are double the size of what is currently possible at neighboring ports.
