Thanckes Jetty Survey Works Underway

TMS Ltd said in its latest announcement that they have completed the first phase of marine survey works for the unexploded ordnance investigation (UXO) purposes at Thanckes Jetty, Devonport.
The survey was carried out from TMS’ survey vessel Sea Seeker and utilized traditional survey methods; multi-beam, side-scan and magnetometer surveys, as well as revolutionary penetrative survey methods.
According to TMS, this allows the surveyor to detect objects buried within silt and sediment layers.
The current project is ongoing and is in the report processing stage to identify UXO, prior to underwater (diving) investigations.
The new jetty is to be built by VolkerStevin at the depot which provides fueling facilities for Royal Navy ships based in Plymouth.
This capital development project, worth approximately £43 million, will include a significant amount of dredging works.
The jetty is due to be in service by November 2019.
