VIDEO: Kitty Hawk beach nourishment project underway

Beach nourishment work is underway in the Town of Kitty Hawk, Dare County, North Carolina.

The beachfill operations began in Kitty Hawk on August 24, 2022 and will last approximately 35-40 days.

The contractor, Weeks Marine is currently dredging and pumping sand between 3639 N. VA Dare Trail and 3727 N. VA Dare Trail, moving southward.

The aim of the project is to reinforce approximately 3.97 miles of shoreline from the Southern Shores/Kitty Hawk town line to the Kitty Hawk/Kill Devil Hills line at a construction cost of $9.6 million.

The estimated volume of material required for the Kitty Hawk beach nourishment project is 645,000 CY.
