According to the City, GLDD was contracted through the Corps of Engineers to place sand on the Fernandina beaches. The contractor is on the north end now and will finish up next week.

Placement of material commenced at Fort Clinch Beach and after approximately 8 days the crews moved to the North Beach portion of the project.

Overall, the contractor will dredge and pump around 300,000 cubic yards of beach compatible sand on to the City coastline.

The sand needed for the Fernandina Beach nourishment project is being dredged from the Kings Bay Entrance Channel and sections of the inner channel.
