The main hull was loaded for transport to the Hunter Valley, for Kirra’s first task of cleaning a coal tailings pit, with the cutter ladder and side pontoons to be fitted once she arrives.

The cutter suction dredger (CSD) arrived at Hall HQ in March, and during her stay, the team spent approximately 3,000 man-hours giving Kirra a makeover in preparation for her first job.

Here are some of the upgrades she received:

  • A stern winch to improve the dredge’s manoeuvring capabilities,
  • Conversion to a 24V electrical system, creating a more energy-efficient control system,
  • A CZone control panel to simplify operation of the onboard electrical systems,
  • A state-of-the-art fire suppression system,
  • A fresh lick of paint with the Hall blue.
