USA: Next Phase of Monmouth Replenishment Set for Fall

Acording to Atlanticville, the final phase of the Monmouth beach replenishment project that will also include Sea Bright is expected to begin this fall.

The Army Corps of Engineers will begin restoring the north stretch of beach beginning at Cottage Avenue in Monmouth Beach to the northern boundary of Sea Bright.

Mayor Susan Howard said: “The main purpose is to protect the town from potential storm damage. A byproduct of that is that we get to enjoy a beautiful beach.”

The Army Corps of Engineers completed the restoration of the south side of the Monmouth Beach shoreline, which involved pumping 1.2 million cubic yards of sand from the ocean back onto the beach.

Of the $12,913,250 cost of the project, the federal government contributed approximately $7.5 million, in addition to $2.5 million that had been banked for the project through funding secured by Rep. Frank Pallone in previous years.
