Panama Canal: Expansion Project Nearly Half Complete

Expansion Project Nearly Half Complete

The Panama Canal Authority announced that its expansion program was estimated at 44.5% completion as of August 31.

To date, three of the four dry excavation projects have been completed and the 4th project reached 67% through August 31.

The dredging of the Pacific and Atlantic entrances and of the Gatun Lake are advancing as scheduled with progress reaching 92%, 98%, and 76% respectively.

“The Panama Canal Expansion Program is moving forward at a good pace. The program has made positive contributions to Panama’s economy, such as direct employment, investments, and knowledge and technological transfer,” said Panama Canal Administrator/Chief Executive Officer Jorge Quijano.

The Panama Canal announced that all works or construction projects by ACP, designed by the Engineering Division, by contracts or its internal workforce, must use sustainable design specifications contained in a list of Green Building Construction Specifications applicable to ACP for short-term renovations and new constructions.
