Susquehanna Dredging Project About to Begin

Susquehanna State Park’s Lapidum Boat Launching facility will be temporarily closed on or around October 9, with a projected reopening date of December 1, 2012, in order to remove excessive sediment from the launch area caused by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.

“This work is necessary in order to keep the facility in a safe and operable condition,” said Park Manager Nicole Merrick. “Every effort will be made to reopen the facility for public access as soon as possible.”

Both launch ramps will be closed so that the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) can install a sediment control barrier during maintenance. This barrier will minimize any impact the site work may have on the environment.
