USA: Expanded Port Everglades Welcomes Ellie Lady

Expanded Port Everglades Welcomes Ellie Lady

At 813-feet long, 131-feet wide and 62,201 gross-registered tons, the Ellie Lady will have the distinction of being the largest oil tanker to ever dock at Port Everglades.

Approximately 8.2 million gallons (195,000 barrels) of jet fuel will be offloaded at Port Everglades. Jet fuel coming through Port Everglades is used at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Miami International Airport and Palm Beach International Airport, Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers.

While the Ellie Lady is the largest oil tanker to call here, the largest ships to call Port Everglades continue to be the largest cruise ships in the world, Royal Caribbean International’s Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas, sister ships measuring 1,187-feet long, 184-feet wide and 220,000 gross-registered tons. By comparison, the largest containerized cargo ship to call at Port Everglades was the MSC Texas at 1,095-feet long, 141-feet wide and 90,745-gross-registered tons. Gross tonnage does not include the weight of the cargo aboard the ship, which make petroleum and containerized cargo ships much heavier and therefore in need of deeper water.
