The Philippines: Pasig River Ferry System Rehabilitation Includes Dredging

The Metro Manila Council (MMC), composed of Metro Manila Mayors, announced that the operation of ferry service along the Pasig River will start on April 28.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chairman Francis Tolentino said the on-going rehabilitation involved the dredging of the low portions of river and the repainting of the pontoons.

Given only few weeks before the start of the ferry operations on April 28, he said he is confident that repairs will be finished on time.

Tolentino said the ferries will be using an initial five terminals out of the original 11 stations put-up by the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC).

The five terminals are in Guadalupe, Makati City; Sta. Ana, Manila; Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in Sta. Mesa, Manila; Plaza Mexico in Intramuros, Manila; Escolta in Manila; and Pinagbuhatan in Pasig City.
