USACE Galveston Awards Contracts for Sediment Testing
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, awarded two small business task order contracts to Sol Engineering Service LLC, (an 8(a) small business) in the amount of $63,498.55 for environmental services to include collection and analyses of water and sediment samples from the federally-maintained Gulf Intracoastal Waterway from Rollover Pass to the Galveston Causeway near Galveston, Texas and the Channel to Harlingen reach near Harlingen, Texas.
Sediment testing allows staff to analyze and evaluate shoal material to determine whether unacceptable impacts would result from dredging operations prior to maintenance of the channel.
“The Corps routinely conducts physical and chemical analysis on maintenance dredging projects throughout the Galveston District in order to evaluate for a range of analytes including pesticides and metals,” said Lisa Finn, an environmental project manager with the USACE Galveston Navigation Branch. “Through sampling analysis, we are able to review data to make certain we remain in compliance with multiple federal regulations, including the Clean Water Act.”
The USACE Galveston District employs an environmental management framework to provide structure and accountability within its business processes to help enhance and expand the positive impacts of its mission, while reducing, mitigating or eliminating potential negative impacts.
Field sampling is expected to begin in August 2014 for laboratory analysis to follow.
“We view small business as the heart of the U.S. economy and a vital part of the Corps’ procurement process,” said Ken Adams, USACE Galveston deputy for small business. “I’m pleased to see small businesses expanding their customer base and considering the federal government as a source of business.”
