Manson Wins Sabine-Neches Dredging Gig

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, awarded a maintenance dredging contract in the amount of $3,646,550 to Manson Construction Co., for maintenance dredging of the Sabine-Neches Waterway, Sabine Pass Outer Bar and bank channel in Jefferson County, Texas, and Cameron Parish, Louisiana.

The contractor is required to remove approximately 2.6 million cubic yards of dredged material from the Sabine Outer Bar Channel beginning September 2014 with an estimated completion date of January 2015.

“It is extremely important to effectively maintain this reach of the channel, as the Sabine Pass Outer Bar and bank channel serves as the entrance to the busy Sabine-Neches Waterway,” said Paula Rankin Wise, USACE Galveston District project manager. All dredge material from this contract will be placed offshore in approved ocean dredged material disposal sites.”

According to Wise, the SNWW is the fourth largest waterway in the nation and enables the transport of more than 100 million tons of cargo annually to energy, petrochemical and military users.

“This waterway is the number one U.S. importer of crude oil, home to refineries that produce 60 percent of the nation’s commercial jet fuel and is the number one commercial military outload port,” said Wise. “It truly serves as a vital link to the state’s and nation’s economies, which is why it is critical that we keep these channels open for commercial waterborne traffic.”
