Kochi Port: Nautical Depth Study Gets OK

The Shipping Ministry has approved the Kochi Port’s plan to carry out a nautical depth study aimed at reducing the recurring dredging expenses.

According to The Hindu Business Line, the Ministry gave its nod to a grant for studies on siltation and optimal ameliorative measures.

It is for the first time that an Indian major port is going ahead with a nautical depth dredging, a concept which is in use in most of the European river ports.

As well as cutting down maintenance dredging costs, the new study will help the Kochi Port to implement this new concept to reduce the planned dredging depth.
