Van Oord Wins Award for Broomhill Sands Scheme

Team Van Oord has won the UK’s Environment Agency Exemplar Health Safety & Environmental Performance Award for Broomhill Sands coastal defense scheme.

This project includes improving a 700m length shingle beach, replacement of 8 timber groynes and constructing a 1,700m rock revetment and wave wall along the remainder of the frontage.

The scheme will improve flood protection to 1,300 homes and 100 businesses by increasing the standard of protection from 1 in 20 to 1 in 200 years.

The Broomhill Sands coastal defense project covers the 2.4 kilometers of beach from The Suttons, Camber to the western boundary of Lydd Ranges.
