NQBP Strongly Supports Port of Weipa Development

The Chair and Directors of North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation (NQBP) met in Weipa last week in recognition of the port’s role in supporting the Queensland economy.

Along with our CEO Steve Lewis, and indeed everyone at NQBP, we are committed to the sustainable growth and development of the Port of Weipa, to ensure the region is well placed to maximize future trade opportunities, for the long-term benefit of the community,” said NQBP Chair Brad Fish.

During this visit, we have had the opportunity to see first-hand a number developments including the recently constructed Evans Landing boat facility. I was particularly pleased directors could inspect the dredge vessel Brisbane as it undertakes the important task of maintaining channel depths for Rio Tinto’s export operations.”

Mr Fish added that the Port of Weipa is one of the deepest outside of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and as such had a key strategic value for the State.

NQBP’s responsibilities at Weipa include ensuring suitable port facilities and infrastructure to support current and future trade needs, and undertaking regular maintenance dredging to maintain the shipping channels and swing basins.
