Sinocalan River Dredging Operations Continue

Dredging operations along the Sinocalan River and other tributaries continue in Sta. Barbara town, according to the Philippines News Agency.

The main goal of these cleanup operations is to further control and manage flooding events.

Mayor Carlito Zaplan, who began another term as local chief executive, said that though flooding was a perennial major problem in the town, it had already been minimized with the help of the dredging machine purchased by the local government unit.

Around 60% of the total 12-kilometer areas of the Sinocalan River from Barangay Tuliao to Minien, has already been dredged, Zaplan said.

The mayor already noted that flooding was no longer a huge problem in the town because of the continuous dredging and construction of dikes along the banks of the Sinocalan River.
