Saudi Arabia Delegation Tours USACE’s Flood Control Projects

A delegation from Saudi Arabia visited the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Los Angeles District, in Las Vegas on July 28.

District Commander Col. Kirk Gibbs briefed the group on the District’s area of responsibility and the scope of work performed.

Of particular interest to the group was the District’s longtime partner in area flood risk management projects, the Clark County Regional Flood Control District.

“Clark County RFCD was an amazing host for our District and the Saudi visitors,” said Gibbs.

“On short notice, they provided facilities, prepared a briefing, and joined us for a tour of the Tropicana-Flamingo Project. They were very gracious and hospitable – true partners of the Los Angeles District and USACE as a whole.”

Steve Parrish, CCRFCD General Manager, provided an overview of the regional flood control system and Rick Leifield, chief of the Engineering Division, spoke about the Corps’ work with the local sponsor.

As part of their tour, the Saudi delegation also visited the USACE headquarters, the New Orleans District and historic Hoover Dam.
