Bathtub Beach Closed Due to Nourishment Scheme

High tides, strong wind and heavy surf again are threatening Bathtub Beach, forcing the Martin County to close the popular area to strengthen dunes and protect roads, the county said in their latest announcement.

“Nourishment projects are a normal part of conservation and coastal management,” said Kathy Fitzpatrick, Coastal Engineer for Martin County.

While Bathtub Beach performed well during the recent hurricanes, crews are now working diligently to strengthen and reinforce the dunes to ensure protection for MacArthur Boulevard,” she added.

While closed, Bathtub Beach will not be guarded, the county said.

Once the nourishment work is complete, the beach will reopen to the public with Martin County Ocean Rescue on duty for the safety of beach patrons and swimmers.
