Van Oord Wins Port of Benoa Dredging Contract

State-owned port operator Pelindo III has contracted Van Oord to carry out dredging works in the Port of Benoa, Bali.

Access to this port needs to be improved to accommodate the increasing number of tourists.

Execution of the work will start soon and is expected to be completed within the year.

The Indonesian island of Bali is a famous tourist destination. The peninsula Benoa, on the southeastern side of Bali, is developing rapidly. By deepening the existing access channel and port basin, maritime access to the port of Benoa will be improved, said Van Oord in its release.

The Rotterdam based dredging contractor will deploy a large cutter suction dredger to dredge a total amount of 5 million m³ of material.

The project contributes to the ambition of the client to support business expansion by improving the infrastructure in this area.

The existing fishing port will be upgraded and the developments will allow more cruise ships to berth. According to Van Oord’s announcement, the local economy and the tourism sector in Bali will benefit from this improved access.
