Boskalis’ giant TSHD Gateway busy in Melbourne

Boskalis’ giant trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Gateway is currently very busy working on the latest Port of Melbourne dredging project.

According to the port, this maintenance dredging program will be underway until early-July 2023.

Dredging work is being carried out at various locations within the port precinct and South Channel in Port Phillip Bay to remove a build-up of sediment and to ensure Port of Melbourne’s berths and channels are maintained for shipping.

The 2023 maintenance dredging will occur in the following areas:

  • North of the Yarra River services crossing including silt traps and Swanson Dock swing basin,
  • South of the Yarra River services crossing including silt traps and Webb Dock,
  • Station Pier including swing basin and approaches,
  • Williamstown and Port Melbourne Channels,
  • South Channel and a limited area of the Entrance.
