According to the company’s latest announcement, they installed the station in the newly created nature reserve – the Hedwige-Prosperpolder.

In the early 2020s, we helped turn this 465-hectare area into a thriving estuary, protecting the surrounding areas from flooding. Now, we are diving deeper into the carbon storage of these new mudflats and salt marshes,” said Jan De Nul.

“We are also studying carbon capture in mangroves, the tropical cousins of salt marshes, through the AquaForest project in Ecuador’s Guayas delta.”

The measuring station offers a unique opportunity to investigate how the restoration of tidal areas can contribute to reducing global warming.
