The U.S. Army Corps of Engineering will begin hydraulic dredging operations in the waters located between the South Haven piers and at the mouth of the harbor this morning, the City of South Haven said.

According to the City, this dredging project will accomplish two major objectives:

• Deepen the navigable channel into and out of the harbor, improving access and safety for recreational and commercial vessels,

• Relocate sand to South Beach to support beach nourishment efforts and strengthen coastal resilience along the shoreline.

Navigation through the harbor will remain open throughout the project as crews work to remove accumulated sand from the channel-bottom and pier heads. The dredged material will be transported to waters off South Beach for beach nourishment efforts,” the City said.

The dredging work will be completed by July 2026.
