Van Oord Installs Rock in Brazil
Van Oord has completed first rock installation project at the Rio Negro pipeline crossing project in Manaus, Amazonas State, in Brazil. The client is the Brazilian oil and gas operator Petrobras.
The works is part of the Urucu-Coari-Manaus gas pipeline project which transports gas from the onshore Solimões basin to the city of Manaus. In order for the gas to reach Manaus, two pipelines with diameters of 14 and 20 inch need to cross the River Negro. To guarantee stability and prevent scour, the flexible fallpipe vessel Tertnes carried out the rock installation works on both pipelines. The vessel loaded the rock at a floating quay wall in the port of Chibatao, Manaus.
This is the first rock installation project by flexible fallpipe vessel in Brazil. Van Oord has been active in Brazil since 1985 with offshore, dredging and marine activities.
