UK: Medmerry Dredging Makes Progress

Medmerry Dredging Makes Progress

Coastal defence works at Medmerry have started on 28 June.

The dredgers Sospan Dau (71m) and Shoreway (98m) are supposed to dredge shingle from licensed dredging areas east of the Isle of Wight and then discharge the materials onto the beach near the Bunn Leisure Caravan Park, between the newly constructed breakwaters.

All vessels will maintain listening watch on VHF channel 16.

A 500m floating pipeline will be installed, and used by the dredgers to pump the material onto the beach. The discharge operations are scheduled to take place during high water. The pipeline is moored with 6 anchors and clearly marked with yellow-navigational marker buoys.

The beach recharge operations are scheduled to last for 4 months.

Mariners are advised to keep safe distance from all vessels and pipelines during these operations.
