USA: Senator Murray Secures Cash for Puget Sound Cleanup

USA Senator Murray Secures Cash for Puget Sound Cleanup

On August 1, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced that she has included almost $30 million for Puget Sound cleanup and recovery efforts in the Fiscal Year 2014 Senate Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill.

This funding would continue the federal investment and supplement state and local efforts to implement Washington state’s Puget Sound Action Agenda, ensuring the restoration of Puget Sound, which is critical to the recovery of several Endangered Species Act-listed salmon species as well as to the environmental and economic future of Washington state.

“Strong federal investments in the recovery, protection, and cleanup of Puget Sound are critically important to the economic, cultural, and environmental identity of Washington state,” said Senator Murray. “I’m proud that we were able to include this level of funding during these extremely challenging fiscal times, and I remain committed to the restoration of Puget Sound.”
