Land reclamation operations at Thinadhoo are now underway, according to the Maldives’ Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure.

After completion of its work in Addu City Feydhoo last week, the Van Oord’s trailing suction hopper dredger HAM 318 started dredging and land reclamation program in the Thinadhoo area this morning.

The Feydhoo scheme involved creation of 50 hectares of new land and the construction of a 1680 meter breakwater.

The Thinadhoo part of the project will result in 53 hectares of new land and 1852 meters of breakwater.

Under the agreement with the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure, the HAM’s work will also consist of dredging, reclamation and civil works in the Himmafushi areas.

This last part of the contract will include creation of 21.6 hectares of new land and an 890 meter breakwater will be constructed as well.
