All Set for the Rukki Channel Maintenance Dredging

The Estonian Maritime Administration recently selected a contractor for the upcoming Rukki Channel (Rukki kanal) maintenance dredging project.

According to the Administration, the tender by Insenerehituse AS was declared successful and includes maintenance dredging of Rukki Channel on the Rohuküla-Heltermaa fairway between mainland Estonia and Hiiumaa Island.

They also added that the contract for the project was signed today (August 3, 2018) with the total cost of 650,000 euros, plus VAT 130,000 euros.

The maintenance dredging will be undertaken to restore the depth that was achieved in the channel after the last dredging works, which according to the Baltic height system BHS-77 was 5.4 meters, but in accordance with the currently used common European height system is 5.2 meters (EH2000).

The dredging works are planned to begin on August 22, at the latest, with the completion set for 15 October 2018. The dredging will be carried out during night hours in order to avoid hindrance to ferry traffic in the area.
