Swinoujscie – Szczecin project progresses quickly

Dredging works for the Świnoujście – Szczecin fairway project in Poland are coming along nicely, according to DEME Group’s latest report.

Together with their joint venture partners, Van Oord, DEME is responsible for deepening and widening the fairway along a section of approximately 62 kilometres.

After starting the works in May, the cutter suction dredger ‘Amazone’ has put in an outstanding performance, despite mobilising in very difficult circumstances.

“CSD ‘Amazone’ will now head off for her next challenge while we welcome Van Oord’s trailing suction hopper dredger ‘Vox Amalia’ on the project,” DEME said in the update.

Over the next few months, ‘Vox Amalia’ will work alongside pioneering dual-fuel trailing suction hopper dredger ‘Scheldt River’, which recently joined the project.

The Świnoujście – Szczecin fairway currently has a depth of 10.5m. After the completion of works, the contractors will dredge the fairway to 12.5m, enabling the port of Szczecin to handle bigger vessels.
